“I love education and sharing knowledge to people wanting to learn,” says Head Color Educator James Plain.
For every hairdresser, education is key. Yet for customers, consultation is vital before deciding on a style or color.
“When consulting, take on your client’s ideas but it is up to you to determine what the client really wants. They may not even know what they want. Educate them.”
Plain says that it’s necessary that hair colorists acquire creative thinking and strong understanding of the color range when working with color.
Some clients ask for colors, style and a specific look, they need to be aware of the differences prior to informing the hairdresser before they start. For example, he reveals that balayage and highlights are techniques while ombre is a look.
There are various color brands in the market across the world. Choosing the quality is preferable over price.
“Go with a brand you feel supported by and can easily communicate with,” the Melbourne-based hair color educator says. Don’t let the brand control you.”
With the perfect hair color and the best hairdresser comes perfect hair. Little to some clients know that lighting is “very important” to clearly see the color.
“It allows you to get the best result. Always have natural light in the salon.”
